OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100
OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is one of the world’s best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. When a textile article carries the STANDARD 100 label, you can be certain that every component of this article, i.e. every thread, button and other accessories, has been tested for harmful substances and that the article therefore is harmless for human health.
The test is conducted by independent OEKO-TEX® partner institutes on the basis of extensive OEKO-TEX® criteria catalog. In the test they take into account numerous regulated and non-regulated substances, which may be harmful to human health. In many cases the limit values for the STANDARD 100 go beyond national and international requirements. The criteria catalog is updated at least once a year and expanded with new scientific knowledge or statutory requirements.
OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 - RECYCLED
The OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification is available for both traditionally manufactured products and products containing recycled materials. However, the appearance of the OEKO-TEX icon differs slightly when a product with recycled materials is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified. In this case, the letter “R” is added to the label number.
To obtain this certification, OEKO-TEX® requires a thorough understanding of how and with which recycled materials the item is manufactured, along with the basic requirement that recycled materials constitute at least 20% of the main fabric. Thus, the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification with the letter “R” in the label number documents that recycled materials are included in this product, in addition to confirming that the product has been tested for harmful substances.
CERTIFICATION APPLIES TO ALL PARTS OF THE PRODUCT
With an OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification, it's much more than just the main fabric that needs to meet specified criteria. In fact, every single component is tested before the final article is allowed to carry the STANDARD 100 label. Equally the prints and coatings applied to the outer material are also tested for harmful substances.
